The Beginning Of My Political Journey

E-mail Print PDF

In 2007 I was carried into the Orange Democratic Movement ODM  frenzy that swept the country. After running successful businesses, I ventured into politics thinking that as a politician I would influence changes  that affect our lives as Kenyans.

But I soon found out that politics in Kenya is run as an ‘old boys’ club that only wants a certain type of leader around them. Obviously, I wasn’t one of them not just in gender but also in approach as I don't tow the line. There was a concerted effort to rig me out of all the Kenya elections from the mayoral elections to the Embakasi constituency.

In hindsight maybe a blessing in disguise! Though these two attempts cost me plenty in terms of finances and emotions, I don't regret it because it made me more determined to think out of the box and realize that i don't need the validation of these political posts to help Kenyans or reach out to work with fellow Kenyans for the good of our country.

I feel sorry that our leaders keep promising hope and change but once elected they just end up looking after their own personal interests and fail to serve the electorates.  We are now faced with the situation of failed institutions, low morale and a people who are getting desperate for change. Some might call it a failed state but i think we have not yet gotten to that stage if we can shift our focus from the leaders to each other as Kenyans. What this country needs is to have strong institutions and visionary leaders that are people driven.

Now for some much needed clarification I no longer want to be the mayor, nor do I want to be a Member of Parliament come 2012 and for that I resigned my position as a Member of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM and also my previous membership with Narc Kenya. These political positions mean nothing if we are eroding our country. I will work with leaders who are honest and fellow Kenyans to unite and find solutions to the many problems that challenge this country. All I want is to serve all Kenya with other Kenyans without banners or barriers. I wish to commit the next 10 years of my life, energy and resources to further these ideals.

However  I can not do it alone and I don’t have all the pieces, we need each other to fit the jigsaw pieces to make the perfect picture for Kenya, our country and our motherland.

Let us unite and work together for Kenya.

And so we discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.
